Waffles, I used to always think that they are sooo fancy and difficult to make🙃. Turns out, it's really simple! I mean once you have a waffle maker, LIFE CHANGES! All you need to do is, make the batter, heat up the iron, coat it with a little coconut oil, wait for the waffle light to turn green and VOILA! You can dig in! These healthy 4 ingredient waffles only need 4(!) ingredients! I mean, does it get any simpler than this? For sweetness we use banana in here (what else would you expect of me haha 🤣), the egg makes sure the waffles sticks together and is super fluffy 🤤 and we add some cinnamon or pumpkin spice for flavour! I used my beloveeeddd oat flour in this recipe, but see the substitute section for more substitutes!
Healthy Waffles
As I already said, waffles always seem so luxe to me. BUT: I LOVE WAFFLES! 🧇 In high school, I would always get fresh sugar waffles from the cantina (I know veryyy healthy 🤣), but the smell, the flavour, everything is just sooo good 🤤🤤🤤. However, ever since I had to eat gluten-free it was difficult to get healthy waffles or waffles in general. I tried some, but they always failed my taste buds... Too dry, too sweet, too much sugar and always contained tons of ingredients! That's why I bought a waffle maker and started experimenting myself! Supermarkets also sell all those pre-packaged waffles but I promise you, they never taste better than home-made!
Simple & Quick
I tried to keep this recipe to only 4 ingredients, to make it simple and easy and accessible to anybody who doesn't have a cupboard with like a million ingredients. Just like other meals, you do not need 10000 ingredients to make something delicious and healthy! In this recipe I only used egg, banana, oatmeal and some spices! That's all folks! In case, your waffle likes some substitutes...
Okay, 4 ingredients too complicated? Well, in that case, I have some substitutes for your waffle so you can enjoy a vegan waffle or a banana-free version 🤣 (I know you banana-haters out there 🙃)
Egg: let's start with this one. For all my vegans you can sub the egg for 1 flax/chia-egg + 2 tbsp of any flour of choice. I do recommend adding some splashes of milk if the mixture is too dry. You can of course also go for a vegan egg-replacer.
Banana: sooooo, you do not like banana 🍌, do you? Well... In that case, it might be better if you skip on this... Other substitutes you can use are: apple puree, pumpkin mash, sweet potatoe mash (super good!) or chestnut puree!
Oat flour: this one is easy --> just use any other flour type you want! Whole wheat flour, spelt flour, all purpose-flour, gluten-free flour, buckwheat flour, quinoa flour... You choose.
Cinnamon: in case you do not like cinnamon, try cacao! Then you have a chocolate wafffleeeee 🤤🤤🤤🤤🧇 ( I used pumpkin spice though)

One more thing: in case you do not have a waffle iron: pancakes are your friend!
4 Ingredient Healthy Waffle Recipe
INGREDIENTS (1 serving):
(gluten-free & sugar-free)
⏰10 min
▪️1 egg*
▪️1 ripe banana
▪️1/2 cup of oat flour
▪️cinnamon / pumpkin spice
*vegan? See substitutes!
Method:
1️⃣Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend until a smooth batter.
2️⃣Heat up your waffle iron in the mean time and spread some coconut oil on the surface. This will make sure that our waffles do not stick. Now once the iron is heated, add the batter in there and let the waffles bake!
3️⃣ENJOY! Serve with any toppings of your liking! I used some vanilla coconut yoghurt, fresh berries, flax-seeds, honey, hazelnut butter, cacao nibs & more cinnamon!
